Update 2: Little Houses, Big Bird

The male Hairy Woodpecker is just sketched in at this point. I really want to bring him up to full realization, but there are many little houses to paint between now and then. Again I found only about an hour yesterday to paint. This neighborhood is coming together well though.

Here I have begun sketching them in with a pencil just to locate them in space. keeping track of where I am on the canvas is a real challenge. There is nothing worse than finding the puzzle piece doesn't fit after you spent an hour putting it in place.

As soon as I started this piece I got very busy in the shop. In addition to several other pieces, I am currently framing a Gideon Bok print. He has a wonderfully loose and easy way with paint. He also uses an interesting multiple vantage point perspective. These two visual devices combine, with a little suspension of disbelief, to portray the passage of time in a very convincing way. The print was produced at Wingate Studio, a print workshop just north of here that specializes in traditional intaglio printing techniques. They consistently produce amazing things for amazing artists.
